FAQs of our students

Are you starting a new, or maybe even your very first employment relationship with us at MMS?

There are usually many questions about your insurance, side jobs and holidays. Here is a brief overview of the answers to the frequently asked questions.

> Directly to the contact persons
> Go directly to the Lernenden Community

Is my employment subject to social security contributions?

For all compulsory interns as well as Bachelor and Master students: you do not have to pay any social security contributions, i.e. your gross salary corresponds to your net salary. Voluntary interns, on the other hand, pay the full social security contributions. As a working student, you only pay contributions for pension insurance. If your salary is less than 455€, you can be exempted from compulsory pension insurance.

How much holiday do I have?

As a compulsory intern or diploma student, you have no holiday entitlement. Voluntary interns and working students are entitled to a pro rata of 20 days per year. As a volunteer intern for 3 months, for example, you are entitled to 5 days, as a working student for 6 months you are entitled to 10 days.

Can I work part-time in addition to my employment at MMS?

Interns and diploma students can carry out part-time jobs, but may not work more than a total of 48 hours per week (MMS plus part-time job). Furthermore, the activity must not be in competition with your activity in MMS. For working students, all part-time jobs added together may not exceed the maximum upper limit of 20 hours per week. If you want to apply for a part-time job, please contact HR (mms-hr-excellence(at)t-systems.com).

What does the working student status include and when does it expire?

A working student status is accompanied by the benefits of social security contributions described above. This status is tied to the fact that you are a student. This includes:

  • Valid enrollment in any study
  • Working time including all secondary activities max. 20 hours/week
  • Open modules in the study (receipt of the last grade pending)

As soon as you become aware of your last grade in your studies, you can only work as a working student until the end of the month. This is independent of the end of the semester (or validity date of enrollment) as well as the receipt of the graduation certificate. If this is the case for you please contact HR (mms-hr-excellence(at)t-systems.com), otherwise both you and us as an employer are threatened with additional payments of social security contributions.

Can I be privately insured?

This depends on your employment relationship. Compulsory interns and diploma students can be privately insured. Membership in a private health insurance company is also possible for working students, but we need information about your last statutory health insurance company or a desired health insurance company in order to be able to pay the pension insurance contributions there. If you are employed by us as voluntary interns, private health insurance is not possible. Please register with a statutory health insurance company.

Is it still possible to stay in my family insurance?

Depending on your employment relationship, insurance via family insurance may be possible as long as your earnings may not exceed 455€ per month.

Enjoy learning together

The community for learners offers space and opportunity to exchange and network with other learners across departments, for example by participating in various events, such as the team event or afterworks.

If you feel like it, you can get involved in the community and support the organization team with the current tasks - for example, in the planning of events, but also in many other areas.

In our intranet under Lernende@MMS you will also find all information about your start and the daily work in MMS, experience reports, news about your employment relationship or a possible change of area and careers in the company.

We took this picture at the learners team event 2019. The motto was: Start filming!

This is what your Christmas party with us could look like.

... or an afterwork on a volleyball field.

In addition, the "Community Spotlight" takes place regularly, where learners gain insights into different areas and projects.

Or you can organize your own event, such as a learning brunch.

There are no limits to your creativity ;).
