Modern, responsive and user-friendly - this is how the new online presence of Stadtwerke Rostock AG, developed by Telekom MMS, presents itself.
Individual customer journeys were designed for the various target groups and implemented in the online presence. This makes it easy for users to find the information they need or order the products they want. If the user is a customer of the public utility company, the typical administrative tasks can be carried out conveniently in the self-service area.
A powerful CMS and the modular system give the employees of Stadtwerke Rostock the possibility to adapt the online presence quickly and flexibly to the requirements of the market.

Powerful Tool for Customer Acquisition and Retention

With its new online presence, Stadtwerke Rostock has a powerful tool for acquiring new customers and retaining existing ones. It is therefore possible to display target group-specific campaigns via the website and measure their success via the integrated tracking system. With the help of function modules such as the integrated A/B testing, the effectiveness of the customer approach can be measured and the website optimized. Structure and content in the content management system can be freely configured by the municipal utility editor and tailored to the target group.
The self-service portal is seamlessly integrated into the website and, in addition to administrative tasks, allows customers to view consumption data or optimize their tariffs. Due to targeted search engine optimization, the online presence of Stadtwerke Rostock is also easy to find via search engines.

 

Task and Target

 

Stadtwerke Rostock AG is the largest energy company in the Hanseatic city with over 100,000 customers in the areas of heating, electricity and natural gas. As a result, Stadtwerke Rostock also aims to set standards on the Internet for the benefit of its customers.

Back in 2012, Telekom MMS worked with the municipal utility to implement a self-service portal based on Intershop to enable customers of the municipal utility to perform activities such as reporting meter readings, changing master data or switching tariffs online.

Five years later, work began on a comprehensive relaunch of the municipal utility's website. The online platform had to be thoroughly modernized and standardized both technically and visually. Usability and customer experience were to be raised to a new level.
Last but not least, the brand "Stadtwerke Rostock" was to be dusted off and, in particular, the anchoring of the municipal utility in the region was to be brought forward. Thus, the aim was to create a new CI/CD for the public utility, including a new logo.

Solution and Implementation

 

In close cooperation between Telekom MMS and Stadtwerke Rostock, the first step was to develop the basic concepts for the relaunch, such as the future information architecture, the modern, responsive design, the new content model, search engine optimization and holistic tracking.

Furthermore, a so-called content guide was developed specifically to enable editors to create high-quality content for the platform that is optimal for people and search engines.
The realization of the concepts took place on the e-commerce platform Intershop 7, a conscious decision of the Stadtwerke Rostock, in order to be able to use the various marketing and sales tools of the platform.
Together with partner agency Oberüber Karger, a new mission statement, a fresh CI/CD and a new logo were also developed and implemented in the online presence.

With its new, modern and user-friendly online platform, Stadtwerke Rostock has a powerful tool for customer communication, marketing, sales and customer retention.
The powerful content management system allows the editors of the municipal utilities to address specific target groups and to play out individual campaigns and marketing measures. The user is quickly guided to the desired content via various entry points. The entire system of content pages, product presentation, sales process and self-service appears to be cast from a single mold and, thanks to responsive design, adapts to the end device of the respective user. Thanks to an integrated tracking system, customer journeys can be evaluated and optimized on the platform. Customer orders are automatically transferred to the backend system.
The modular structure of the Intershop platform allows it to be efficiently expanded with new functions.
The recently created color and visual language represents the municipal utilities as an integral part of the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern region and the connection to the people living there.
